THE FIRST WATCH
A brotherhood begins with those who start before everything is perfect.
Division 8 was born out of years of trying to build something that could truly form men. Plenty of opportunities abound that just inspire them for a weekend.
I’ve worked with many of the great men’s programs, attended their retreats, used their materials, and watched them produce good fruit. But I’ve also watched how little has changed in our parishes. The world has grown darker. The Church needs something deeper.
Years ago, in prayer, I heard a clear answer to prayer:
You will lead an army unlike any the world has ever seen.
I had no idea what that meant, and I’ve spent years contemplating what it might be. I became convicted that if we actually wanted to change the culture we had to change the family. And if we wanted to change the family we had to form men. Not an army of speakers or strategists, but an army of builders, fathers, and brothers who live the Gospel through disciplined action.
That call never left me.
And Division 8 is the answer to it.
THE CALL
The First Watch are the men who act before others are ready. They don’t wait for ideal circumstances or perfect clarity. They rise in the dark, take their post, and prepare the way.
We’ve seen enough words. Action is what’s needed now.
The same principles that have transformed thousands of companies using EOS can rebuild our homes and parishes. If you aren’t familiar with EOS the aspect of it that is most brilliant isn’t that it has all the great ideas. All the ideas inside EOS really come from other places like Patrick Lencioni and Jim Collins. But the brilliance of EOS was giving companies a set of tools to put those ideas into practice and demonstrating traction before they learned everything about the system. Men don’t need more books or videos. They need tools and they need to take action.
Structure brings freedom.
Order brings peace.
And when men lead with rhythm, everything around them begins to heal.
